North London Villa

The generous scale of this family house in a charming pocket of North London allowed for experimentation both in terms of layout and materiality. The owners had lived here for several years before embarking on the renovation and we relished incorporating some of their existing furniture as well as updating other pieces with new upholstery and colour-rich textiles. A blend of antiques and handmade joinery helped strike a thoughtful balance between old and new. The clients were drawn to our use of colour and this made for a collaborative and creative exchange; a sitting room drenched in deep blue provides a markedly different feel from the chalky tones of the airy living room.

Working with Chris Dyson Architects, a refreshed internal layout saw the kitchen relocated and a new dining room extension built overlooking the garden. To create a striking contrast against the original part of the house, we finished the space with a textural zellige tiled fire surround and polished concrete floors in terracotta. This being a family home, nothing was designed to be too precious. Dedicated areas for the children - from the playroom to their bedrooms - brim with energy and have been orchestrated to grow with them. The owners’ personalities resonate in every room, and the home continues to be layered with their latest finds.
